The Clarkston Farm and Garden Club, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, works to improve the Village of Clarkston and Independence Township by promoting beautification, education and conservation through local participation. The club has received several awards for Civic Improvement from National, State and Local organizations.
Our dues and fundraisers support the community as follows:
BEAUTIFICATION
- Honorarium Planters - Created and implemented a plan to line Main Street in The Village of Clarkston with honorarium planters. The design, plantings and maintainence are provided by club members.

Gardens at the Independence Township Library - Developed and maintain: 1) The Children's Literary Gardens, highlighting the tales of Peter Rabbit, The Frog Prince, The Secret Garden and The Giving Tree, and 2) The Diamond Jubilee Anniversary Garden, created between Clarkston Road and the Township Library in honor of the club's 60th Anniversary.
- Annual Perennial Plant Exchange - Organizes and promotes each Spring for community-wide participation.
- Annual Community-wide Garden Walk - Organizes and hosts this event which has grown each year since 2006 (it's first year), and just keeps getting better!
EDUCATION
- Clarkston School District Schools - Provides in-house programs geared towards conservation and beautification
- Clarkston School District Educators - Offers grants for programs involving conservation and beautification
- Clarkston Public School Teachers - Funds and coordinates Project Learning Tree Programs
- High School Seniors - Offers scholarship money to qualifying students.
- "March is Reading Month"- Participates annually by reading stories to Clarkston children centered around the stories depicted in the Children's Literary Gardens at the Independence Township Library
CONSERVATION
- Conservation Groups - Donate proudly to various groups, such as 4-H and the North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy
PARTICIPATION
- Annual Christmas Greens Market - Held the first Saturday in December at the Church of the Resurrection, 6490 Clarkston Road, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this event is the club's primary fund raiser. Beautiful handmade and fresh centerpieces, wreaths, roping and small gift ideas are available.
- Annual Plant Exchange - "Bring a plant; take a plant" is our motto at this fun jump start to Spring.
- Art in the Village - Our garden club booth greets crafters, on-lookers and fall enthusiasts at this annual September event with beautiful cut flowers and gorgeous mums.
- Clarkston Blooms (an extension of our garden club family)- For an annual fee of $10, "Blooms" receive our quarterly newsletter, The Trowel, and invitations to the garden club July Picnic and Greens Market Preview Sale. Blooms may assist the club as available with any current projects.
